Ready for Shifting into Confidence to Release Overwhelm? As a coach in the online space building a business, learning how to gain momentum, keep your motivation up, and overcoming challenges is key to growth.

It’s easy to find yourself feeling overwhelmed from the endless to do list, social media demands and hustle that comes with building a thriving coaching practice.
This week my 12 year old taught me the powerful lesson of Shifting into Confidence to Release Overwhelm. I love that it’s my job help make him grow into a good man. It was no surprise when a simple car conversation to help him grow taught me just as much I was seeking to teach him.

He has hit 7th grade! I love it and feel slightly sad at how he is growing up and maturing. (Maturing is a relative term when talking about a 12 year old boy. )

You’re in the right place if:

  • you are tired of the trash talking inner mean girl limiting your success.
  • you want to get more clients without the hustle.
  •  you have one struggle after another that pops up and you just can’t seems to hit that next level no matter how hard you try.
  • you struggle with fear and doubt in your business, and you need that inner mean girl to just shut up and let you be awesome.
  • you work and work, but feel like it is always one step forward and two steps back.
  • you have half *ss habits that are holding you back, you know they are there, but haven’t been able to replace them long term.
  • You want to be more confident in business and in life.
  • You are ready to BE a 6 figure earner.
I found myself really thinking about a like lesson that I wish I would have learned earlier. Honestly, I know I still struggle with this at times, so know you probably do to.

Like so many of us, my oldest man-child is catching shinny object syndrome of sorts.

This year alone he has committed to:
  • Band, (concert, solo and ensemble)
  • Piano
  • Builder’s Club
  • Boy Scouts (He has Eagle Goals!)
  • National Junior Honor Society
  • JuJitsu
  • UIL – Music Memory Team
All of which require before or after school meetings! Three require community service hours. Others require at home practice time.
At first I feared he just didn’t know how to say no, but I realized he says know to things he really doesn’t want to do. This is more like shinny object syndrome or fear of missing out (FOMO) on something awesome.

So with this in mind we had a heart to heart conversation on the drive to school.

Here is the gist of what we talked about that left me contemplating my own commitments.
It is so tempting to do all the things. They are fun, new, and full of accolades. But sometimes when we take on too much we will find ourselves half-assing and giving only minimal effort.

By saying no to somethings, even when they are fun, positive things you are opening up space to give more time and energy to the things that really light you up.

For example. when you decide to not participate in Builder’s Club, you are opening up space to spend more time practicing music.

Now before you think this is just a learn to say no, blog relax. It isn’t. Here is the next step that I encouraged him to do.

I encouraged him to make two lists of things when it comes to extracurricular experiences.

One list of “Joy/ Heart Felt Passion” and a second “That’d be Nice” list.

The key with this is to take some time and really think (meditate/ pray) on what you love the most.

  • What lights you up?
  • What do you enjoy doing just for yourself even without recognition or anyone else being a part of it?
  • What brings you pleasure and joy?
  • What is fun, but not really something that you care deeply about?
  • What is nice to do, but doesn’t really light you up?
What was my purpose of this for him?
I wanted him to release the overwhelm of the constant to do list, and instead do what he loves most.

By releasing the That’d Be Nice list that didn’t really motivate him, he would be releasing the activities that he doesn’t find joy in, and don’t showcase his best talents.

This allows him to shift into confidence because now his extracurricular activities are not only things he is passionate about, but he has more space in his mind, heart and day to pursue them.
This means increasing his skills and becoming better because he is not spread so thin. Increased skills means increased confidence for most areas of life. This is exactly what I want for him as a mom.

Connection

In our coaching businesses it works the same way. When you release the overwhelm of having every minute of every day scheduled you are opening yourself up more of life that lights you up.

To me this more joy, gratitude, and adventure doing the things I am passionate about. This means growing in my skills and building my confidence too. Just a win win all around.
